The Agri-Women’s Development Trust (AWDT) is excited to announce the appointment of Julia Jones as our new General Manager. With a wealth of experience in global analysis,
leadership, and relationship-building within New Zealand’s agricultural sector, Julia is poised to help lead AWDT into its next chapter.
Julia brings a breadth of expertise to the role, shaped by her career spanning global analysis, leadership, and a consistent focus on developing and fostering strong relationships across New Zealand’s agricultural sector.
Her work has centered on driving future focused thinking and contributing to shaping strategies that drive relevance and enduring success.
Her previous experience includes working at KPMG with a focus on agribusiness strategy, navigating rural banking during the Global Financial Crisis as Agri Regional Manager at ANZ, self-employment and fostering partnerships in her recent role at Beef + Lamb New Zealand.
A proud AWDT alumni and current Chair of Meat the Need, a food security charity, Jones combines her deep sector knowledge, relationship-driven leadership, and passion for empowering people to create a thriving and resilient future for agriculture.
AWDT Co-Chair Keri Johnston notes that Julia’s strategic vision and deep leadership experience will help steer the Trust as it continues its mission of providing world-class women’s leadership programmes in the food and fibre sector. “Julia embodies the heart and energy of what AWDT is all about,” says Keri. “She shares our values and optimism for the future.”
Julia, for her part, acknowledges the incredible impact AWDT has had over its 14-year history and is eager to build on that foundation. “I’m excited to work alongside the AWDT team and stakeholders to bring our shared vision for the future to life,” she says. “It’s a time for collaboration, creativity, and courage—and I’m confident we can rekindle the spirit and purpose that makes AWDT so special.”
As AWDT enters a transformative phase with a new strategy, fresh energy, and a renewed focus, Julia’s leadership will be key to ensuring the organisation continues to serve the wāhine of the food and fibre sector, enabling them to lead with purpose, presence, and impact. Julia will start her role part-time on 1 February, moving to full-time in April.
Looking ahead, the future of AWDT is bright, and we’re excited to see how Julia will help shape its direction.
The Trust would also like to express its gratitude to Susan Doughty for stepping into the role of Executive Trustee in 2024 and providing valuable support during a year of organisational refocusing. Susan will continue to contribute to our mahi in her capacity on the Board.
